So There I Was...

So there I was, standing in front of a white board with an Expo marker in my hand. I was desperately trying to keep it together. The bell was about to ring, the students would be coming in, and I was absolutely terrified. It was my first day of teaching and the nerves were at an all time high. I finished writing what I needed to on the board, it looked like I was writing it during an earthquake, but still it was written. I went back to my desk and noticed that I had a missed call and had a voicemail. My dad had called and left me a message. He reminded me that I had only ever wanted to be a teacher and now the moment was here. I needed to be present and enjoy what I had been waiting for for so long.

For several years, I was a Middle School History teacher. I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and loved it. I was given the amazing opportunity to teach at the school that I had actually attended. I taught alongside the women that were my teachers, and learned many valuable lessons from my peers. I was able to teach so many amazing kids and watch them turn into even better adults. I loved what I did and all I had ever wanted to do.

In early 2018, I became ill and had to take a step back from teaching. To say I was distraught is an understatement. Not only was I not teaching, but I wasn't able to do anything. I felt purposeless and lost. It took months to figure out what was wrong. When we finally figured out what was wrong the road to recovery was, well is, a long one.

That summer, I picked up a camera. I haven't put it down since. While it hasn't filled the void that was teaching...yet...it has brought me so much joy. This past week, these two worlds combined! The Back to School mini sessions are a kickback fundraiser for the school! Ya'll, I have been on cloud nine with these sessions! I have met so many wonderful families and these kiddos are such cuties! Thank you to the school for this opportunity! Thank you to the families that have participated in this session. I appreciate you helping me give back to the school that gave me so much!

Happy Monday, friends!
