Fun fact: I love to read. More fun fact: Today is National Book Lovers Day.
Hi, my name is Chelsea and I am a book lover. I love the crack of a new spine, I love the smell of a good book (yes, good books do smell better), I love when you finally finish an amazing book and have to grieve for a few days. I love that at any given time, I am reading three books. A physical fiction (Right now, that book is A Good Neighborhood), a book on Audible (Right now, that book is called The One), and a biography or non-fiction informative book (I just finished The Bomber Mafia). Most of all, I love a good book.
I am a book lover so today was basically made for me! I love all the books and am going to try and narrow it down to my *at the moment* top five, with a few honorable mentions, ok several but still! If you are not into books, let me try and convince you. If you do, this blog post is just for you!
5. The Great Gastby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Ok this one is an oldy but a goody! This was the first book that I remember not being able to put down and then reading and rereading it over and over again. I loved the glitz and glamour, I loved the jazz age, I loved the roaring 20's era. I realize now how irresponsible it all was but every once in awhile, I'll pull it back out and scarf it down once more.
4. Rules of Civility by Amor Towles
From the author of A Gentleman in Moscow, Rules of Civility is a wonderful read! Set in 1938 (most of these are set in the early to mid 1900's), this story works its way backwards. He is such a wonderful writer. The worlds he creates are spectacular and the characters are even better. I have enjoyed both of these books and hope to read another!
3. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
My 6th grade teacher introduced me to this gem. To date, I have read it at least four times, I have mailed it to countless people, left copies in places for other people to find it, and cannot say enough about this. Set in a post WWII, this book is written solely in letters. The characters are absolutely charming, the writing is wonderful and story leaves you wanting more! I just love this book so much and just cannot say enough good things about it.
2. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
Another historical fiction masterpiece. Ya'll this book. Two characters living in two completely different worlds. Their paths collide in the most tragic of ways. I'm not going to say I cried but I was heartbroken. So many beautifully, haunting details that left me grieving this book for days.
1 The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
Ok, so I listened to this book on Audible. It is narrated by Tom Hanks. Nearly, ten hours of Tom Hanks lulling me into this novel spanning almost 60 years. Danny, the main character, is introduced as a child. We grow up with him. The loss, the love, the house that unites it all. This book is wonderfully written and at the moment holds the top spot!
