I've known this young man for years, yeeeeears. I met Ethan when he was in the second grade. I was teaching his oldest sister and met the brother that wanted to know how irritating his sister was being in class. Ethan wanted to make sure that I watch her, because she can be bad (she wasn't at all). I said I'd do my best.
When it came time for me to teach Ethan, we were already familiar with each other. He felt more comfortable then most students do when they first entered my classroom. We also had a House System (think Harry Potter) and Ethan was in my house (BTC!). For three years, Ethan was in my classroom. He was an active participant, he offered to help those who were in need, and he made it a point to check in with his classmates. He was leader in both the classroom and in house. Ethan just has a calming presence that can be difficult to find among teenagers. He motivates, he encourages, and he often offers a helping hand. When it came time for him to leave me, I wished him all the best. He said he'd do his best.
Ethan continues to be an active senior. After he left my school, he made the personal decision to start going by his first name, John. It has still been an adjustment. However, John, I will do my best.
I will do my best to continue to encourage you to be your best, I will do my best to help you in anyway I can, and I will do my best to start calling you John.
John will be going to A&M in the fall and I have no doubt that he will be just as helpful there as he is here. I have no doubt that he will find a church and quickly become active there, just as he is here. I have no doubt that he will continue to do his best there, just as he did here.
*At the end of his gallery is a brief video. After his session, we met up with his friend Will. You remember Will....https://www.chelseawestphotography.com/post/you-re-going-where....they have been friends since kindergarten and we had a friends shoot before their families surprised them with a drive by parade. It was fantastic! OH, and the bow tie that John is wearing...he MADE it!!*
Happy Monday friends!
