But what do I do with my hands?!

We've all seen it. That scene from Talladega Nights with Will Ferrell. He has no idea what to do with his hands and he just lifts them up next to his face. They aren't on his face, they are palms up in front of his face. They aren't further out in a "What?!" fashion, they are again, right in front of his face. Sooooo awkward and I know we all have been there. Where do my hands go?! Just hanging, wrapped around someone, in pockets, what do I do with my hands?!

Today is our 5th and FINAL week of preparation for Fall Family Photos and it is all about the posing!

I 100% understand that posing in general is one of the most intimidating parts of your session, probably second behind what to wear. I also 100% understand that some poses don't always feel natural. Finding the right pose is like hitting the jackpot, but trust me when I say it is easier than you think!

For this post, we are going to work on family posing. Regardless if it is just the adults or the whole group, the rule is simple: Always be touching. Here are my 5 favorite poses that any family can do!

#1 Love is an Open Door (yes, the Frozen song)

This is by far the most simple pose. Everyone is standing side-by-side, either holding hands or arms around each other. When in this pose, think of a door - regardless of number, the door is wide open. When the door is partially closed, you back shoulders are still touching but you're now at an angle towards each other vs straight on towards me. The door being closed is when, you are facing each other. In any of these stages: arms are wrapped around each other, hands are holding, heads leaning in. You've got options here!

#2 I can get down but I don't know if I can get back up (said every dad ever)

This one may not be the most comfortable for many, but I will tell you, personally, these are some of my absolute favorites! I start with the biggest (not said in poor taste) of the group and let them get comfortable. Then, add on from there ending with the smallest. The more people there are, the more creative this pose gets. Regardless of how many people there are, this pose also has a plethora of options and each one is perfect for some snuggles!

#3 Just some kitchen dancin (You know, like you used to do)

9 times out of 10 I've got some sort of music going during our shoot. Whether it is 90's country or The Greatest Showman, music is playing. This leads to the perfect opportunity for some dancin. Nothing too crazy or choreographed and certainly no judgement. Just a few sways and maybe a twirl or two.

#4 Lets walk over there

I know this tends to be the least favorite pose for a lot of people, but trust me when I say it's not the action that I'm looking for. It's what happens after. Whether we are walking from spot to the other, or just back to the car, walks are a great pose. Super simple, everyone lines up, holds hands and walks. I'm usually asking you a question or two during these walks. With all the walking and talking, you have less time to worry about having your picture taken and tend to look more natural.

#5 Love on em

This pose tends to be more for the littles but it can work for all ages. You know your kids better than anyone. You know what they like and what they don't like. You know what makes them laugh and smile and you know what they can't stand. When it's time for one-on-one pictures, the direction is simple. Just love on em.

Friends, the last five weeks have been so informative! I have loved all of the feedback and really hope this was helpful to you and your preparation! As always, please let me know if you have any questions and can't wait to see you for your Fall Family Photos!

Happy Monday friends!
