Let me start off by saying it's my birthday today. And I truly believe that there are two types of people in this world: those that celebrate their birthday and those that are fine. I am fine. I love celebrating others and their big days but when it comes to me, meh. I'd rather slink away and avoid the day, you know, like most adults do.
And like other adults do, I send myself a birthday card. Just to make sure I get one. Summer birthdays are usually forgotten and I realized years ago that if I wanted a birthday card, I'd have to send it myself. I don't just scribble Happy Birthday Chelsea in it, I write. I write what I have learned throughout the past year and I write down what I hope will happen in the next year. I make a list of all the things I am grateful for and make a note of what I need to be better of.
This year, however, has been different. Every part of this year has been incredibly different and seemingly, increasingly more difficult. This year has been full of meltdowns, full of questions, and full of doubts. I mean, I get it. That whole pandemic thing tends to create chaos. Chaos usually ends up with everyone being in their own glass cage of emotions.
While it is so easy and convenient to only focus on the negative. There are oh so many positives from this past year.
Three of my dear friends each had their precious baby boys. Attending three weddings for three couples that are absolutely perfect for each other just warms my heart. My family is healthy, and while a year ago that was said casually, now more than ever that means so much. My family and my friends are healthy. I am so thankful to be part of a basketball program that helps players not only improve their skills as players but their character as young men as well. I have a circle of friends that are unbelievably supportive, especially during all of this. I'm thankful that we have a medical staff that continues to fight this fight. I am thankful for those that are keeping the supply chains going. I am thankful for those that are keeping churches, restaurants, offices, and many other places clean and sanitary. Just so thankful.
Above all, I am thankful for you. I am thankful that you continue to show up and support. I am thankful that in my time of doubt and fear, you are here to listen and encourage. I am so thankful that during a crazy economic downturn, you showed up and donated almost $2,000 to St. Vincent de Paul. I am so thankful to you!
Friends, I am thankful that you have been here for the last year and I can't wait to see what all we accomplish on our next trip around the sun!
Happy Monday friends!
